How We Work

The Rainbow House Model

Rainbow House is a non-profit organization, providing 24-hour care for survivors of Traumatic Head Injuries and other degenerative diseases. It is a licensed personal care home that provides a non-institutional, home-like atmosphere, where individual attention and quality of life are stressed. It is the only long-term facility in Texas that provides care for low income, heavy care clients.

Rainbow House provides brain injury survivors:

  • an opportunity to achieve their maximum potential through caring,  theraputic and social service support.
  • long term care and exemplary services in a family style home that fosters independence and personal productivity.
  • a wide variety of activities from going to parades, the rodeo, sking at Sea World  or dressing up for Halloween

Daily routines start early each morning. Residents are up, showered and ready for a day of various activities including Day Programs,  a part time job for some or a day of activities/games at Rainbow House.

At the end of the day, our folks sit down and share dinner and their adventures as a family. Built on a "social" rather than a "institutional" model, Rainbow House helps residents regain lost social skills by providing a range of social opportunities.

Our people are given  a home, a family of friends, loving hands to help them live their lives with vitality and an environment where their dignity is matter of fact. With the help and support of Rainbow House, some residents have been able to move on to assisted living and some have even been able to take on part-time jobs.

Residents are helped with their loss of cognition, ability to function, difficulty with speech, behavior problems, personality changes, movement and their short or long term memory loss. Rainbow House offers rehabilitation by helping  them achieve their maximum functional potential.

Rainbow House operates in accordance with U. S. Department of Agriculture policy, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, age, handicap, religion or national origin.
